Sights and Flavors of Northern Thailand

Explore the cultural roots, hiking trails, and food of Northern Thailand
Exploring Northern Thailand
Chiang Mai is considered the capital of Northern Thailand and one of the spiritual centers of the country. This trip explores the long history of the area and its people. You will hike, eat, and learn your way into the soul of Thailand.
-
Meet up in our hotel lobby for a short trip orientation and then dinner at a local restaurant.
-
The morning on this day will be unstructured as we allow for some travel recovery but we suggest getting a Thai massage and will point you in the direction of our favorite shops. The group will regather in the early afternoon to go on a private food tour of Chiang Mai, exploring the local delicacies with a local chef.
-
After breakfast we will take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures to explore some of Chiang Mai's most famous wats (Buddhist Temples). After a cold drink and lunch, we will beat the heat by visiting 2-3 museums and learn about the human history of the region.
-
No visit to Thailand is complete without a bit of adventure! First, we will visit an Elephant rehibilitation project on our way north to go white water rafting. We will spend 4-6 hours on the river with a local, professional guiding company and then transfer to a new destination for the evening, the city of Pai, high in the hills towards the Myanmar border.
-
After checking out of our lodging we will go for a local hike in Pai Canyon, visiting one of the regions most unique treasures. We continue west from Pai heading towards Mae Hong Son, traveling through the valleys that weave amongst the mountains. Our destination for the afternoon is a stunning eco-lodge offering us a gateway to the jungles of the north. After stopping at our lodge, we will head into Mae Hong Son for the night market, an outstanding local attraction.
-
Today we will head deep into the mountains visiting the small village of Huai Hee to learn about the most incredible organic coffee farming operation we have ever seen. From Huai Hee, we will also take the opportunity to hike up a nearby peak with extraordinary views of the surrounding region. Evening will be spent back at our resort, enjoying the pool and outstanding dinner.
-
We will leave Mae Hong Son this morning, heading south and then east to Doi Inthanon National park, home of Thailand's highest peak. At the park, we will spend a few hours trekking around and visiting the Royal Pagodas before lunch and a stop at a locally famous waterfall. The late afternoon will find us heading back to Chiang Mai and our previous lodging to conclude our road trip.
-
This morning will focus on a visit to Warorat market, one of the oldest markets in Thailand and a full sensory experience! In the afternoon, we will apply some of our food and market expertise on a cooking class, making our own dinner in a multi-course experience.
-
Our last day in Thailand will take in some additional hiking heading up towards Doi Suthep on the Monk's Trail to enjoy sunset. After the sun dips, we will shuttle back into town to cleanup and then enjoy a final dinner together.
-
Folks will depart the group today, on to other adventures or homeward bound.
