Trekking to Everest’s Base Camp

Trekking to Everest’s Base Camp

Trekking to the Everest Base Camp is the most famous route in Nepal for good reason! This outstanding trek keeps your pack light and you stay in established tea houses each night. While it might not be luxurious, it is certain a comfortable way to explore this extreme environment.

  • Meet up in our hotel lobby in the Thamel District of Kathmandu for a trip overview and introductions before we head out to dinner together.

  • Today will be spent exploring the city with a guide, visiting some of Nepal’s most famous urban sites while recovering from jet lag.

  • We will drive to Manthali with a few culturally significant stops along the way.

Manthali is the typical gateway to the Khumbu region. From this city we can access flights to Lukla, the start of our trek.

  • Today’s early morning flight is a quick trip into the mountains and the start of our trek. A short 15 minutes of airtime shave many hours off transportation times and gives us outstanding views of the region.

After landing, we will spend the rest of the morning walking to Phakding, our first Tea House of the trip.

  • These days we will spend hiking through the Khumbu region on our approach to Everest. We will have a couple of acclimatization days and build our elevation slowly in order to maintain the health of our group.

Each night will be spent in tea houses, sharing hot meals and drinks with other trekkers.

  • Today we will hike up to and visit Everest Base Camp. This legendary location is over 17,500’ and an accomplishment to reach.

We will not overnight at Base Camp but rather turn around and drop back down to Gorak Shep to stay the night.

  • We will spend less time hiking out than we did coming in, hiking more miles as our lungs regain the oxygen of lower elevations.

As with before, each night will be spent in a rustic but comfortable tea house.

  • We’ll catch a morning flight back to Manthali and then load up for a drive back to Kathmandu.

Once back in town, you will get some time to clean up and relax before we regather for a final celebratory dinner together.

  • Folks will depart the group today, on to other adventures or homeward bound.
