Our Story

Origin

World Travel Project was launched by Travis Welch in 2025.

In 2008, Travis discovered that he enjoyed spending more time in fewer places when traveling rather than quickly consuming a tapas bar of destinations. This started when he set off on an “around the world trip”, expecting it would take 3-6 months. Three months in, he hadn’t left his first country. Six months after that and he was finally moving into his third, it took almost two years to leave the region.

For some, leaving their homes behind is about learning and connecting with others. This might happen because of a place, food, an activity, or even a terrible bus ride that is “type 3 fun”. We can choose to visit amazing places but doing so alone, with no connection to other humans will only be partially fulfilling. Sharing experiences is the key.

World Travel Project was conceived to serve the growing community of passionate travelers who want more connection when traveling.
