Exploring Slovenia’s Treasures

Politically, Slovenia is still young country but don’t underestimate what it has to offer when you look closely.

  • Evening orientation and group dinner

  • We will take a bit of a casual day to recover from jet-lag and allow delayed baggage to catch up.

After breakfast we have a private walking tour of the capital city and then lunch at a local favorite giro stand. For those who still have the energy, we can visit the city’s castle high up on the hill or the Slovenian national museum.

  • Today’s outing will visit two of Slovenia’s most famous destinations. Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle are about an hour shuttle from Ljubljana and our private tours of these two jaw dropping locale’s will take up most of the day.

Once arriving back in the city in the late afternoon, we will be well prepared for an evening food tour, an opportunity to learn about the delicacies of Slovenia.

  • We will shuttle to Bovec this morning, deep in the heart of mountain country for Slovenia. Once in Bovec, we’ll ascend the Kanin gondola (7,000’!) and hike to our lodging for the next 2 nights

  • Today will be a big hiking day! Leaving the Rifuigio we will traverse the massive bowl that it is perched on, skirting along the Italian border the entire time.

Returning for lunch will give folks an opportunity to relax for the afternoon or continue on for a second afternoon hike before dinner at our Rifugio.

  • After breakfast, we will take the gondola back down into Bovec and then hit the Soča river for a day of white water rafting. This is a regionally famous white water destination and there will be no shortage of thrills!

We’ll spend the evening in Bovec to clean up and get ready for our trip to the mountains.

  • From Bovec we will shuttle to our trailhead. This is the entrance into the Julian Alps, where we will spend the next few days.

Heading up hill, we reach our destination hut after a couple of hours of gentle climbing.

Those who still have energy can continue on to Krnsko lake or the summit of Krn for an outstanding afternoon hike.

  • Today's hike will be traverse across some of the most beautiful country in this range, gaining and loosing elevation throughout the day before ending at a picturesque hut made famous by the double lake that marks the entrance to Triglav valley

  • We will spend most of today on a wandering traverse across the northern slopes of Lake Bohinj. The trails travels through pastoral landscapes and dense forests before we descend rapidly to our hut for the evening, famous for their daily baked fresh pies!

  • A short hike will bring us down to the small town of Stara Fuzina, full of charming homes and winding streets. After a wander through town, we'll walk down to Lake Bohinj and maybe take a dip before catching a bus down the valley to the town of Bled where we will visit Bled island and perhaps the castle on the hill.

  • The sights aren't over!

From our hotel we will grab an early shuttle to Vintgar Gorge and walk the remarkable wooden paths that weave through this visual feast of a river valley.

From Vintgar we will shuttle back to Ljublana where folks can clean up before a celebration dinner out on the town together.

  • Folks will depart the group today, on to other adventures or homeward bound.
