Brian Gee, M.D., FAWM, DiMM- Medical Advisor

Growing up in rural northern Michigan, Brian learned by direct experience the love of the outdoors and all of its changing seasons. With longish winters full of reading, his desire for a “road less traveled” developed with exposure to books and the ideas they presented him.

Towards the end of his completion of medical school in Chicago, he ventured into remote areas doing clinical clerkships. These formative times in Alaska and Arizona drew him to look at a career in rural and austere medicine.

His career in medicine has encompassed both emergency medicine and primary care in his home state of Wyoming. He has been lucky to volunteer in India, Honduras, Nepal and India. These austere experiences have led to his most recent project of forming a non-profit charitable clinic in Lander WY called Lander Free Medical Clinic.

He loves to spend time thinking about and teaching austere medicine. He has done so as a past teacher for NOLS Wilderness Medicine, and as a current lecturer for Wilderness Travel Medicine adventure CME trips. He is currently the Medical Advisor for NOLS and he maintains his DiMM and FAWM certifications through the Wilderness Medical Society.

Brian loves the combination of travel, being outdoors and meeting new people which, almost always, fosters new ideas and fun adventure plans.
